Fabio Borini reveals what the Sunderland ownership said to new signings
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast on 16 September, former Sunderland forward Fabio Borini gave an insight into what Kyril Louis-Dreyfus might have said to convince players to sign for the club.
He said: “They managed to pass the message of what Sunderland is to those new players because it’s different up there.
“You need to really understand what the people from Sunderland want to see, and want to feel from the players.
“If you don’t give that, you will never have that connection with them.”
Borini made 93 appearances for Sunderland over two different spells, scoring 17 goals in the process.
Sunderland have one of the most passionate fanbases in the UK, with the Stadium of Light possessing the ninth-largest capacity in the Premier League.
The current squad is composed of players who have joined from massive clubs around the world.

Sunderland can create history vs Aston Villa
A win against Aston Villa on Sunday would mark the first time Sunderland have won their first three home matches in the top flight.
Le Bris has looked to bed in late arrivals in the transfer window, yet Geertruida and Brobbey could make their full debuts for the club.
Xhaka, who has been one of Sunderland’s best players so far, will continue to captain the side in the heart of midfield, and boasts a very good personal record against Aston Villa, winning his four last games against Sunday’s opponents.
Regardless of the result on Sunday, it’s clear that Louis-Dreyfus, Le Bris, and everyone involved in the recruitment process has been connected throughout the club’s transition to the Premier League, and fans can’t wait to see what Sunderland has in store for the January transfer window.
