Bent encourages Henderson homecoming at Sunderland in ‘unbelievable’ admission
Darren Bent has encouraged Jordan Henderson to return to Sunderland in an emotional “homecoming”.
Kristjaan Speakman and co. signified a slight change in approach in the past summer transfer window as they looked to bring in some additional experience to expand the squad and, with the likes of Alan Browne and Simon Moore joining the ranks, they succeeded.
Henderson would would do the same. Having spent the overwhelming majority of his career in England and becoming one of the most decorated English players of the current generation, it would be a huge coup for the Black Cats to bring him back to the Stadium of Light and ex-Black Cats striker Bent thinks it would suit all parties.
Speaking on talkSport (9 October), Bent said: “Going back to Sunderland makes sense. That’s his club. That’s where he started. That’s where I played with him.
“The fans would love him as well, and he’s had an unbelievable career. When you look back, what he’s won, what he’s done for England. He’s had an incredible career.
“Almost like a homecoming. It would be really nice for him to go there.”
Sunderland need to bring Jordan Henderson home
There are a lot of barriers in the way of the transfer, one of which Mackem News understands would be to do with his wage demands.
However, Sunderland should be doing all in their power to conclude a deal.

Henderson knows the club inside out and is adored by supporters of the club, his experience would prove invaluable and his ability, despite being 34 years old, is certainly still there to allow him to flourish in the Championship.
It’s probably a fair point to make that he would instantly become one of the best midfielders in the division.
His potential arrival would provide a boost for supporters and an even bigger one to the players in the squad, who could learn a lot from such a talented, experienced midfielder.
The likes of Dan Neil and Jobe Bellingham, who have both been regulars for Sunderland, could be moulded into even better players should the transfer occur.
