View: Le Bris must give attacking ace a chance at Sunderland, could be key in promotion push
Sunderland have been crying out for a striker for multiple seasons but now find themselves with three very exciting options following the arrival of Aaron Connolly.
The Irishman arrived on Wearside on a free and has already begun preparation to achieve match fitness with 45 minutes of action for the U21 side on Monday (7 October) night, in which he found the net with a neat finish.
Despite several loan spells that ultimately ended in disappointment, Connolly has bags of ability that can be unlocked under the right coaching and in the right environment which he will certainly have at Sunderland.
Upon the conclusion of the deal, Kristjaan Speakman was quick to remind fans just how good Connolly can be, referring to how the forward ‘was scoring goals in the Premier League’ when speaking to Sunderland’s club channels.
Regis Le Bris has a real gem in his squad now and a striker who offers something different, and more than anything, experience. He knows where the back of the net is and if he’s able to get his head down, Sunderland potentially have one of the best poachers in the division.
Sunderland can rekindle careers
It is a shame to see Connolly where he is now when taking into account where he came from; he was destined for the top by many when at Brighton but things quickly turned sour and supposed attitude problems and injuries were constantly mentioned as Connolly began to somewhat spiral down in reputation.
However, it’s important to remember that the same happened to the likes of Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts who both arrived at Sunderland under similar circumstances.

Bursting onto the scene at a young age, forced out on loan before finding a home at Sunderland and playing the best football in their career. Something which Connolly will be able to take great encouragement from and with the current setup in place, the Irishman will be given a platform to showcase his ability regularly.
It’s a bonus that Isidor and Mayenda have started the season well as it allows Connolly that little bit of extra time to settle in and get himself in the right place to aid Sunderland’s promotion push.
