Sunderland have perfect chance to make history vs Man City after latest reveal

Sunderland travel to face Man City on Saturday, looking to cause yet another upset.

Man City play host to Sunderland this weekend, with the Black Cats coming off the back of a 1-1 draw away to Liverpool.

That result at Anfield means that Sunderland are now unbeaten against five of last year’s top seven, with their next two encounters set to prove whether they can repeat that trick against the entire seven.

As they have been all season, Sunderland are the underdogs for their trip to Man City, but if they can perform as they did at Anfield, they could make history.

When was Sunderland’s last away win vs Man City?

The Black Cats have had a tough time against Man City, with seven losses in a row dating all the way back to 2014, when Connor Wickham scored twice to earn Sunderland a point in a 2-2 draw.

However, Sunderland have never won a game at the Etihad, with 11 defeats and two draws in their 13 meetings in the Premier League.

The Wearsider’s last away victory against the Citizens was at Maine Road back in 1981, when Stan Cummins was one of three goal scorers.

With that said, Sunderland have already shown this season that they are able to compete with anyone in the Premier League, with an away victory against Chelsea and a 2-2 draw with Arsenal as evidence.

While City may have won two of their last three in all competitions, they have looked vulnerable, and this could be the perfect chance for the Black Cats to seal a historic win.

What did Pep Guardiola say about Sunderland?

Pep Guardiola is arguably the greatest manager in Premier League history, though there are a handful of names that would rival him for that label.

However, his knowledge of the game is remarkable, and he believes that Sunderland are where they are for a reason, which is a vastly different opinion from what many hold away from the Stadium of Light.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Etihad, he said: “All I can say from my opinion is that they deserve to be where they are.

“When you are promoted, and you play well for five games, okay momentum. It can happen. “But for 14 fixtures in the Premier League with opponents like everyone suffers to take results in that position they deserve.

“They do it well; otherwise, they won’t be where they are. Good challenge for us.”
