‘Sunderland have Mikautadze hope’ as negotiations underway with Lyon

Georges Mikautadze has been heavily linked with a move to Sunderland this summer.

With Habib Diarra’s arrival expected to be followed by that of Noah Sadiki, Sunderland have bolstered their midfield options and will now surely look to turn attention to their forward line.

Deals for both Armand Lauriente and Vadyslav Vanat seem to have quietened down, but a recent update stated that the Black Cats had made an approach to sign Mikautadze.

The Georgian international had an excellent campaign in Lyon, but as a result of their pending relegation to Ligue 2, his exit could be forced, and the Wearsiders are looking to pounce.

Roma in race to sign Mikautadze as Sunderland look to advance deal

Florent Ghisolfi was previously leading the recruitment charge at Roma, and was keen on bringing Mikautadze to Italy, though that has since changed.

With his appointment at Sunderland now confirmed, the new director of football is intent on bringing him to the Stadium of Light, with the deal seemingly progressing.

Mikautadze’s record in senior football

As per a report from Corriere Dello Sport (3 July), the Black Cats are now in negotiations with Lyon over a potential deal, alongside Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Mikautadze could leave for as little as £21.1million this summer, which for a player of his profile and ability, would be an absolute steal for any Premier League side.

The fact that they can offer regular Premier League football could give the Black Cats some hope of completing a deal, though it won’t come easily.

Mikautadze could transform Sunderland ambitions

Sunderland need a reliable source of goals next season, and while Eliezer Mayenda could provide that, Mikautadze would all but guarantee it.

His addition would be yet another statement of intent from Sunderland, who will still be looking to make many more additions this summer.
