‘Sunderland have Anthony Patterson concern’ as Senne Lammens update emerges

Sunderland are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Six new arrivals have already landed at the Stadium of Light, with Kristjaan Speakman insisting that several more will follow at Sunderland in the coming weeks.

In just over a month, the Black Cats’ Premier League campaign gets underway at home to West Ham, and Régis Le Bris will want to have most summer business done before then, to give his side the best chance of a good start.

Having already bolstered the midfield and attacking options, Sunderland’s attention has now turned to the defensive shape, with concerns about Anthony Patterson emerging.

Senne Lammens emerges as a Sunderland target

Having already missed out on Marcin Bulka and Djordje Petrovic, who joined Neom and Bournemouth respectively, Sunderland have had to go back to the drawing board to continue their search for a new number one.

That has led them to Senne Lammens, who has now emerged as a target for the Black Cats ahead of their return to the Premier League, according to Nieuwsblad (14 July).

The report adds that the Sunderland board are not convinced that Patterson will be capable in the Premier League.

Aaron Ramsdale is another to have been linked with the Wearsiders, with it looking almost nailed on that a new goalkeeper will be arriving in the coming weeks.

Sunderland have already signed a couple of players from Belgium, which may be how they’ve discovered the Royal Antwerp shot-stopper.

Patterson’s time could be over at Sunderland

Still young and still developing, Patterson’s value will be quite high at the moment, especially given his homegrown status.

If he is to lose his place in the side, there is a chance that the Black Cats look to cash in on him, knowing that his sale would represent pure profit from a PSR perspective.

A season on the bench will only see that value deteriorate, leaving questions as to where his future lies.
