View: Jenson Seelt can be like a new Sunderland signing as images emerge
Sunderland have been handed a massive injury boost with Jenson Seelt spotted back in training following a nine-month spell on the sidelines.
The Black Cats have been dealt a cruel hand this season when it comes to injuries with several players sidelined for a lengthy time with Tommy Watson the latest to suffer.
Sunderland have lacked defensive cover in the full-back positions with Trai Hume the only fit right-back although he has impressed this season.
Seelt’s seemingly pending return will provide a massive boost to the defensive options Regis Le Bris has, as posted on the Sunderland X account (19 December).
Jenson Seelt return will be a welcome boost for Sunderland
It’s been an excellent campaign for the Mackems with all things considered and to be within five points of the summit of the Championship is a remarkable feat in December.
Given the failures of last season, the improvement under Le Bris is astounding and has put them in excellent stead to achieve a return to the Premier League.
Seelt’s return is perhaps a bigger boost than many will give it credit for given his ability to play in several positions. Traditionally a ball-playing centre-back, he has featured fairly regularly at right back and his physicality and defensive awareness could provide an excellent rotation option for Hume.

Having a full squad is going to be key to any promotion chances and the more players that Sunderland can have back throughout the festive period will be nothing other than a positive.
While his return to match fitness may not be imminent, it is evident he is making excellent progress towards getting back on the pitch.
Having him back available and boosting the defensive options will be like a new signing for the Mackems.
