Sunderland handed major possible injury boost ahead of Aston Villa clash

Sunderland play host to Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Regis Le Bris’ side are back in Premier League action this weekend, as they prepare to face a winless Aston Villa side, with hopes of extending their unbeaten home run.

Last time out at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brentford, and will be looking to replicate that result on 21 September.

Now, their chances of achieving that have been boosted after the latest injury update from Villa Park.

Youri Tielemans is a doubt for Aston Villa

Aston Villa are the favourites for the game with Sunderland, but having failed to find the net this season, concerns are emerging.

In fact, Aston Villa haven’t scored since Sunderland got Chris Wilder sacked, with Sheffield United confirming his return this week.

Those concerns have only been added to by an injury to Youri Tielemans in their defeat to Everton, with a report from the Birmingham Mail stating that Unai Emery was “tight-lipped” when giving an update.

With that said, the Belgian could miss Sunday’s clash with the Black Cats, with several other injury doubts ahead of the game.

If Tielemans is absent, it will be a huge boost for Sunderland, given the level of quality he possesses and has showcased throughout his time in the Premier League.

Sunderland have their own concern with Enzo Le Fee

So far, Sunderland have fared pretty well when it comes to injuries, though there have been occasional concerns raised.

Enzo Le Fee missed Sunderland’s clash with Crystal Palace due to a knock, and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to feature in Sunday’s game.

Given the lack of creativity demonstrated by Sunderland at Selhurst Park, his inclusion could be key to getting a result against the Villans.

Regis Le Bris will provide an update on the availability of Le Fee and others in his press conference later this week.
