Sunderland gem wanted by Everton and Liverpool – report

Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is on the radar of Premier League sides Everton and Liverpool, according to HITC.

The online outlet reported on Sunday (15 September) that the Merseyside rivals are both keeping tabs on Patterson heading into 2025.

Liverpool are said to consider the keeper a possible replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher, who looks set to leave Anfield next year, while Everton need a long-term replacement for Jordan Pickford.

Sunderland cannot afford to lose Anthony Patterson

Patterson played in all but one of Sunderland’s 46 Championship matches last season and has started all five so far this campaign.

The 24-year-old has kept three clean sheets so far in what has been a very strong start to the Regis Le Bris regime, albeit with defeat to Plymouth Argyle last time out.

Patterson is still young enough to continue developing, and there is no wonder Premier League sides are showing an interest.

A move to Everton will no doubt get the former England Under-21s international’s heartbeat racing a little quicker.

Pickford is the undisputed number one at Goodison Park, but there is not an adequate back-up and he is regularly linked with the exit.

Liverpool already have Alisson, meanwhile, and even if he moves on Giorgi Mamardashvili is arriving from Valencia next summer.

All Sunderland supporters will hope is that Patterson sticks around at the Stadium of Light for a couple more years yet before inevitably moving on.

In other Sunderland news, the Black Cats could have a fight on their hands keeping hold of another player in January.
