Sunderland fans tear into Newcastle supporters after Villa Park images
Sunderland’s rivalry with Newcastle United knows no bounds.
In just over a month’s time, Sunderland will face West Ham in the Premier League season opener, though fans have already bookmarked a day slightly later in the year.
That is because, as it stands, the Black Cats will host Newcastle on 13 December, in the first league Tyne-Wear Derby since 2016.
However, the hostility and rivalry between the two North East clubs stretches far beyond what just happens on the pitch, with digs now fired at the Magpies because of something entirely different.

Newcastle fans slammed as images emerge from Villa Park
The summertime is not only a period for recruitment, of which Sunderland have done plenty, but also a time for clubs to make the most of the facilities they have to offer.
Concerts are big at this time of the year, and several have been ongoing across England, including a Back to the Beginning show, involving Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath at Villa Park.
Images surfaced from the crowd, and Sunderland fans were quick to highlight how not all football supporters wear their home colours to gigs, just those of a black-and-white persuasion.
Sam Fender recently performed in Newcastle, and the venue was full of fans wearing the home strip, much to the amusement of those on Wearside.
Sunderland set to renew rivalry with Newcastle
It has been a long wait, but the Tyne-Wear Derby will return to the Premier League this season, and fans from both sides will be excited.
Tyne-Wear Derby | W | D | L |
Sunderland | 53 | 49 | 54 |
Newcastle | 54 | 49 | 53 |
The clash has a reputation of being one of the best encounters in the country, while also being one of the most policed events to take place in England.
As for Sunderland, the pressure will somewhat be off them, but with how their recruitment is going so far this summer, there is every chance that they will compete.
