Sunderland fans ready to see back of ‘Awful’ player after loss v Swansea City

Sunderland fell to a disappointing 1-0 Championship defeat at home to Swansea City, and fans are particularly unhappy with one player.

Regis Le Bris’ side secured their play-off spot prior to the game, which meant there was little riding on the result, but it was still a frustrating performance as the team aims to gain momentum before the end of the season.

Sunderland made several changes as they rotated to keep the squad fresh, but this meant that exit-bound teenager Tommy Watson was included in the starting XI.

Fans were already furious at the decision to start Watson, and they were justified in their anger, as the attacker delivered a performance to forget.

Sunderland fans slam Tommy Watson after Swansea defeat

Watson was poor in the defeat to Swansea, and sections of the crowd at the Stadium of Light even booed him off, with his upcoming move to Brighton leaving a sour taste.

Many were also quick to take to X to criticise his performance.

Tommy Watson now unpopular at Sunderland

Watson enjoyed a stunning breakthrough into the first team this season, but the 18-year-old has now gone from hero to villain.

The teenager will join Brighton in the summer, with a deal recently announced, and many are unhappy about the manner of his exit ahead of the Championship play-offs.

Given his poor recent form, it seems unlikely that Watson will start when the play-offs come around, but until then, fans will have to get used to seeing him in the team as Le Bris rotates for the next few weeks.

Sunderland will pocket £10million from his sale, and given his sudden unpopularity at the Stadium of Light, this business looks better and better.
