Sunderland fans rave about Granit Xhaka after Nottingham Forest performance – ‘Best we’ve ever had’

Granit Xhaka has not been a Sunderland player long, but he is already proving to be an outstanding signing.

Regis Le Bris handed Xhaka the captaincy in the summer, and he has led the Wearsiders through steady Premier League waters.

Sunderland claimed their first away victory over Nottingham Forest thanks to a headed goal from Omar Alderete.

However, it was Xhaka who drew the plaudits after an all too familiar masterclass in the hub of Le Bris’ midfield.

Granit Xhaka delivers statement Sunderland performance

Xhaka may have been without Habib Diarra against the Tricky Trees, but that did not faze him or his team.

The Switzerland international went about his business in typical fashion, getting stuck in and breaking up play in front of Sunderland’s back four.

Xhaka demonstrated his attacking nous again after notching his third assist of the season by teeing up Alderete from a free-kick.

As has often been the case since his move to Wearside, the midfielder came in for immense praise on social media after his performance.

One Sunderland fan said: “Xhaka is the best player we’ve ever had.”

Another was spot on: “The man’s impact on the Sunderland squad is one of the most important in the club’s recent history.”

Granit Xhaka could be Premier League signing of the season

Xhaka’s dressing room influence at Sunderland cannot be underestimated, as he has provided guidance and leadership on Wearside.

While not everyone in the football community was convinced of his move to the North East this summer, he has already altered their opinions.

The 32-year-old has produced a positive display in every single game this term, highlighting his consistency and importance for the Black Cats.

Furthermore, he has evidently grown in maturity since his Arsenal days and has been void of any silly moments.

Sunderland signed Xhaka for an initial £13million, rising to a potential £17.3m, and that already feels like a pittance.
