Sunderland fans have every right to dream after new Kevin Phillips reveal – ‘I’m hearing…’
Kevin Phillips has already been given an insight into what January transfer plans Sunderland fans can expect in January.
Sunderland host Everton live on Sky Sports on Monday night with the chance to climb up to second in the Premier League with victory.
After a flying start to their Premier League return, Sunderland will already have eyes on January transfer targets.
Phillips himself enjoyed some glory days at the Stadium of Light but never got the chance to represent the Mackems in Europe.
The club legend believes the current crop could do exactly that, though, even if the latest supercomputer prediction has Sunderland to finish mid-table.
And Phillips has been given some exciting insight into what can be expected early in the New Year in terms of incoming activity.
Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ ambitions outlined ahead of January transfer window
Kyril Louis-Dreyfus put his money where his mouth is in the summer by sanctioning the signings of 14 new players.
And the Sunderland owner could be about to put more money into Regis Le Bris’ squad ready to attack the second half of the season.
In an interview with The Sun’s print edition on 3 November, Phillips said: “I’m hearing the club plan to strengthen in the New Year.
“In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they have already identified their targets and got the balls rolling.”
“The owner has already proved he is not afraid to invest heavily. It is easy to get carried away but from what I have heard from [Louis-Dreyfus] himself, he wants to take the club to the very, very top.”

This insight will be music to the ears of Sunderland fans, who will be desperate for their side to push on after a hugely positive start to the 2025-26 season.
Who could Sunderland sign in January window?
Mackem News understands Sunderland are eyeing up Serbian talent Ognjen Bondzulic ahead of the New Year.
Sunderland scouts are said to have been left impressed by what they have seen from the youngster, although he would likely be more of a signing for the future rather than right here and now.
Greek winger Konstantinos Karetsas is another who has been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light in recent weeks.

Speculation has been fairly quiet beyond that, with more talk of outgoings than incomings.
Indeed, a January exit could be on for Anthony Patterson at Sunderland as Leicester City eye the back-up goalkeeper.
Plenty more players will no doubt be linked with Sunderland as January approaches, though, and hopefully at least a couple of new faces then arrive early in 2026.
