Sunderland face suspensions as Premier League to investigate ‘unacceptable’ scenes vs Fulham – Exclusive

Sunderland’s antics after their defeat to Fulham could land them in a spot of bother.

Fulham secured a 1-0 win against Sunderland at Craven Cottage on Saturday, with Mexican international Raul Jimenez scoring the only goal of the game.

From of start, the Black Cats failed to get a grip on the game, and were more than deserving of their first defeat in five games.

However, Sunderland also let their tempers get the better of them after the full-time whistle, and it could spark a Premier League investigation.

Sunderland could be fined for scenes after Fulham defeat

Sunderland will be frustrated with their performance against the Cottagers, and having managed just two shots in the game, they have every right to be.

However, games like these are when tension tends to spill over, and that is exactly what happened after the clash at Craven Cottage.

Both sides were involved in a large coming together on the pitch, with one member of Sunderland’s coaching staff cautioned for his involvement, and several players having to be dragged away.

While it’s unlikely to be aimed solely at Sunderland, Keith Hackett claims that the Black Cats could face a fine for not controlling their players or staff.

Speaking exclusively to Mackem News, he said: “These scenes are totally unacceptable and damage the image of the Premier League across the world.

“There needs to be a thorough investigation and fines and suspensions if appropriate.

“The referee will submit a detailed report, and this will be included in the investigation. Both clubs will be requested to submit a report.”

Black Cats come unstuck at Craven Cottage

A fine will be the least of the worries for Sunderland, who were simply not at the races for their clash against Fulham.

Defensively, they seemed fairly composed, but a lack of threat and quality in possession was telling throughout the game.

Regis Le Bris‘ decision to play a back five against a side who were one point above the relegation zone certainly backfired.

A home encounter against Bournemouth is up next for the Black Cats, before trips to Liverpool and Man City in succession.
