View: Sunderland face fan backlash over retro clothing re-release
Sunderland are facing backlash from supporters for re-releasing retro clothing that was deemed to be limited edition.
Sunderland announced that Hummel would be the new club provider and it has been a success so far this season.
The trio of home, away and third shirts have all been a major hit with supporters alongside the other gear available to purchase.
However, earlier in the season, the club released a limited edition tracksuit top as a nod to the 1992 FA Cup final, releasing 1,992 of these tops.
They have since been restocked on the club’s official online store and supporters have rightly expressed their concerns on social media.
Hummel is a huge positive for Sunderland
Ultimately, despite concerns, restocking an item which sold out almost immediately is going to raise even more money for the club.
As a whole, Sunderland’s partnership with Hummel has been magnificent and both club and supporters have reaped the rewards.
Sunderland’s retro themed kits this season have sold as expected with records broken (Sunderland Echo).
The Black Cats’ third kit in particular is very unique, showcasing the heritage of Sunderland with a nod to its former mining culture.

The club’s away kit provides a throwback to the FA Cup final in 1992, and the inclusion of the old badge went down a treat on Wearside.
The only thing that could top the start of the partnership would be promotion and its fair to say that Regis Le Bris’ side have made a remarkable start so far.
