Sunderland eye loan deal for ex-Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara – report
Sunderland have been credited with an interest in the loan signing of Stade Rennais midfielder Glen Kamara, according to JeunesFootuex.
The Black Cats will undoubtedly be active in the January transfer window and the latest reports from France suggest that ex-Leeds United midfielder Kamara is on the radar (JeunesFooteux, 25 December).
Attacking signings may be the priority with links to Brighton’s Evan Ferguson (The Scotsman) but the addition of a midfielder may also be a possibility given the uncertainty over Salis Abdul Samed who is yet to make an appearance on Wearside.
Kamara is one of several players at Stade Rennais who could potentially be offloaded in January.
Glen Kamara could be a shrewd addition to Sunderland
January could arguably make or break the season for the Black Cats who have had to deal with several availability concerns since the start of the season.
Of course, the biggest concern of that regard has been Samed, who despite signing in the summer, is yet to play a single minute for the club and is still a few weeks away from being ready to impact proceedings.
The Mackem’s ability to strengthen in the transfer window could be crucial to their hopes of promotion and Kamara would add significant quality and depth into the midfield positions in which has seen little rotation due to injuries.

Milan Aleksic has been limited to just one appearance, while Alan Browne has missed several games with injury and reinforcements are certainly needed.
Kamara’s ability to play in various midfield roles could prove crucial if the Wearsiders can muster up a deal for the ex-Leeds United and Rangers star.
In other Sunderland news, Regis Le Bris confirmed one player will be absent against Blackburn.
