Sunderland ace Dennis Cirkin opens up on int’l future with England one of 3 options

Sunderland full-back Dennis Cirkin could choose to represent England, Ireland or Latvia at international level.

Having had a remarkable campaign for the Black Cats so far, questions have been asked as to where Cirkin’s international allegiance lies with several options for the defender.

Having represented England at youth level, Latvia and Ireland are also options for the former Tottenham academy prospect although he remains undecided.

In quotes reported by the Sunderland Echo [17 November], Cirkin said: “I’ve got a few nationalities.

“But I think at the moment, especially because of last season, where I was basically injured for the whole season, that’s just my main focus in staying fit, being consistent, making that spot mine and thriving at club level first before I start to look into any pathways but for sure, I’m always thinking about it.”

Dennis Cirkin has potential to be future England and Sunderland star

Whether Cirkin chooses to follow the English route into international football is unknown, although he is certainly a player who possesses the necessary attributes and potential to achieve it.

To put it simply, Cirkin has been remarkable for Sunderland this season and he keeps on going from strength to strength with his high level of performances.

Alongside several other players, Cirkin has been a pivotal part of the Black Cats’ side that has allowed them to reach the heights they have and, providing he can stay fit, he will undoubtedly play an even bigger role in the remainder of the campaign.

With three goal contributions this season, one of which resulted in a potential goal-of-the-season contender, Cirkin has shown his capabilities both defensively and offensively.

Perhaps most importantly, the defender also showcased his commitment to the club in a recent social media post following speculation over an exit from the Stadium of Light.

Still only 22, he has plenty of years to develop even further and he has everything required to make it as a top-level full-back.
