Sunderland could swoop for Emil Riis amid latest Preston exit news

Sunderland will be looking to bolster their squad in the summer, regardless of the outcome of their playoff campaign.

As of right now, Sunderland‘s only focus will be on their upcoming clash with Coventry City, with a playoff final at Wembley as the reward.

Only then will recruitment plans be put into place and decisions made on the future of several first-team players.

With that said, the Black Cats will still be keeping an eye on developments elsewhere, and the latest update from Preston may spur them into action.

Emil Riis could be a great addition for Sunderland

Heading into the playoffs, Sunderland have a major concern on the striker front, having scored just once in their last six games, winless in all of them.

While Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda have both contributed plenty to the season, the Wearsiders will look to add another striker to their squad, and amid links to Emil Riis, the latest update could serve as good news.

According to LEP, Riis appears to have already said his goodbyes to Preston, and with his contract expiring in the summer, he will be available for nothing, and Sunderland may swoop.

Riis has scored 12 goals in the league for Preston this season, which, when taking into account their struggles under Paul Heckingbottom, is very respectable, and it could be a great option for Sunderland to take.

Sunderland need to recruit well this summer

With or without promotion, this summer is going to be a busy one for Sunderland, and it is imperative that they get it right.

Regis Le Bris, despite some Sunderland fans wanting him sacked, will almost certainly be here, and if he is to succeed in either division, he will need more quality through the door.

Riis would be an excellent addition for a Championship side, but if the Black Cats return to the Premier League, they may look elsewhere.
