Sunderland U21s boss Graeme Murty keen on Hartlepool United job – BBC journalist
Sunderland Under-21s manager Graeme Murty would be interested in the manager’s job at Hartlepool, according to BBC Tees journalist Rob Law.
Murty has played a crucial role at Sunderland, overseeing the development of players such as Chris Rigg and Tommy Watson.
However, Murty’s time at the club could be coming to an end with speculation linking him with National League club Hartlepool.
Writing via his personal X account on 17 October, Law reported that Saltburn-born Murty is keen on a first-team coaching role and while he’s one of numerous names being considered by Hartlepool, he would be keen on the job.
Graeme Murty’s departure would be a huge loss for Sunderland
Although Sunderland’s Under-21 side haven’t demonstrated their full potential this season, Murty is certainly the man capable of helping them reach that level again.
The Black Cats have won just two of their opening six league fixtures so far this campaign however the former Rangers boss led his side to a respectable seventh-placed finish last season and has played a crucial role in developing players like Watson who has excelled at that level and looks ready to make the step up into the first team.
Ever since arriving at the club, Murty has demonstrated an incredibly high standard that is expected of his players and was even angered at his team’s performance when they hammered Derby County 6-0.
His potential departure would leave a huge hole in Sunderland’s academy setup which could seriously hamper the development of their youngsters as they aim to break into the first team under Regis Le Bris.
