Sunderland could do something last achieved by Bolton Wanderers 23 years ago this weekend

Sunderland have made a brilliant start on their Premier League return

Sunderland’s last-gasp win against Brentford secured back-to-back victories for Regis Le Bris as his side moved to sixth.

The Black Cats now travel to London this weekend to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Le Bris’ outfit are searching for their first away victory after losing to Burnley at Turf Moor last time out.

Sunderland will be underdogs against Palace, but there is a piece of history on the line should they manage to pull off an upset.

Sunderland ready to make history against Palace

Sunderland have enjoyed a good record at Selhurst Park and on Saturday have a chance to break a 23-year-old record.

According to Opta, Sunderland could become the first promoted side since Bolton Wanderers to win three of their first four games.

Bolton achieved the feat in the 2001/2002 season under former Mackems boss, Sam Allardyce.

Nottingham Forest are the only other promoted side to have this record, having won three out of four games in 1994/1995.

Regis Le Bris has some decisions to make ahead of Palace trip

Sunderland’s trip to the nation’s capital will be another real test of their Premier League credentials.

Le Bris needs to get his team selection right ahead of the game and continue the good start to the season.

Palace are missing big players such as Adam Wharton and Ismaila Sarr, and Sunderland need to take advantage of that.

The Sunderland backline will also need to be aware of the threat caused by Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is in form.

A first away win would really be a fantastic result for Sunderland, with Selhurst Park being one of the toughest places to go in the Premier League.
