Sunderland could be tempted into Chris Rigg sale after major Tottenham update
Sunderland will find it difficult to retain Chris Rigg’s services if they fail to achieve promotion this season.
With little under a week until the Black Cats return to Championship action, Sunderland will be fully aware of the need to regain the form and momentum that brought them plenty of success throughout the campaign.
Regis Le Bris’ side are all but out of the automatic promotion conversation, though they have as good a chance as anyone to make a return to the Premier League via the playoffs.
Much of that success in the early stages of the season was down to the impressive form of Rigg, though they may have to start preparing for life without him as the summer approaches.

Tottenham ready to make huge Rigg bid this summer
Tottenham have already been linked with a move for Jobe Bellingham, and it seems like that interest has stretched over to the servicers of Rigg.
According to a report from Fichajes (23 March), Spurs are ready to offer £37.6million to sign the 17-year-old; a fee that would make him the fifth most expensive player in Championship history.
Sunderland | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Chris Rigg | 36 | 4 | 1 |
While Sunderland will want to keep hold of Rigg, a fee like that may prove to be far too good to turn down, especially if they fail to make a return to the Premier League.
As for now, the only focus will be on the pitch ahead of the final eight games of the season, and ensuring that the Black Cats finish the campaign as strongly as possible.

Sunderland simply must achieve promotion
If the Mackems fall short of promotion this season, it could have more than one negative effect in the summer transfer window.
Sunderland will face the prospect of losing several key players to those higher up the footballing chain, and be forced to start over again in their search for promotion.
However, that will not even be a consideration on Wearside at the moment, with eight huge games still to be played.
