Sunderland could achieve 24-year first vs Fulham after what happened vs Chelsea

Craven Cottage is the destination for Sunderland this weekend upon the conclusion of the international break.

Sunderland appear to have got through the international break without any new injuries, which is a huge boost for Regis Le Bris ahead of their trip to face Fulham on Saturday.

The Black Cats are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games, with wins against Wolves and Chelsea followed by draws against Everton and Arsenal.

Chemsdine Talbi scored the winner against Chelsea last month, setting Sunderland up to do something for the first time since 2001 when they face Fulham.

Black Cats chasing back-to-back wins in the capital

Sunderland’s record away to London-based clubs is phenomenal, and they will be looking to add to that when they face Fulham on Saturday.

Marco Silva’s side have had a poor campaign to date, with 11 points from 11 games, and just one win from their last seven games in all competitions.

Fulham are favourites to beat Sunderland, but if Le Bris’ side can seal all three points, it will be the first time since 2001 that they have won back-to-back away games in London in the same campaign.

The Black Cats beat West Ham 2-0 that season, and followed that result with a 4-2 victory away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Super Kevin Phillips was on the scoresheet for Sunderland in their win against Chelsea, with Don Hutchison also netting twice.

Sunderland vs Fulham head-to-head

Dating all the way back to 1935, these two sides have faced off against each other 66 times, with the Black Cats winning 26 of them.

Fulham have won 20, while the remaining 20 have ended in a draw.

Sunderland‘s last win against the Cottagers was back in 2017, when current West Brom forward Josh Maja scored in a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light.

That was Maja’s first goal for the club, with several Sunderland youth stars looking to break into the first team and have a similar impact in the near future.
