Sunderland chiefs surely taking notice as wonderkid impresses again

Sunderland may have the next big thing coming through their academy.

Sunderland’s academy has produced some incredible talent over the years.

From Jordan Pickford, who made history with England against Wales, to Jordan Henderson, who has won just about everything there is to win in club football.

The likes of Dan Neil and Chris Rigg are two of the most recent, both of whom are regulars among Regis Le Bris’ squad for the Premier League.

However, a new wonderkid is starting to gain more and more attentioin for his performances, and it may not be long until he is given a chacne to shine at senior level.

Marcus Neill is an absolute gem

Sunderland’s striker department is strong this season, and that will only grow once Marcus Neill develops even further.

The teenager has been regular for the Under-18’s and Under-21’s on Wearside, and his record over the last 12 months is sensational.

Neill’s Under-18 record last season

Neill scored a hat-trick against Liverpool, his former club, earlier in the year, and since returning from injury, has bagged three goals in his last two games.

He scored the winner in Sunderland’s 3-2 victory against Norwich on Friday night, with another poaches finish at such a young age.

Neill is still just 17 years old, but his blinding potential will surely see him rewarded with a first team chance at some stage in the current campaign.

Who else has come through Sunderland’s academy

Brighton winger Tommy Watson scored the goal that secured Sunderland’s place in the Premier League, having emerged from the academy just 12 months earlier.

In fact, the Black Cats had five academy graduates in their squad for that game at Wembley, including Watson, Rigg, Neil, Anthony Patterson and Harrison Jones.

Names such as Grant Leadbitter and John Egan are also well-known for their long careers in English football, having also come through the youth setup on Wearside.

Sunderland have showcased their willingness to develop young talent over the years, and it really is starting to pay off.
