Don Goodman: Sunderland chances of Evan Ferguson transfer unrealistic
Brighton striker Evan Ferguson signing for Sunderland in January is unrealistic despite recent links, Don Goodman has said.
The Black Cats will undoubtedly be looking to utilise the January transfer window to its full potential in a bid to strengthen their promotion hopes.
Ferguson is a name to have been linked with a move to Wearside (The Scotsman) but when alluding to his previous value, Goodman exclusively told Mackem News it is unlikely.
“Well, first of all, it’s about being realistic,” he explained.
“And I just don’t think it’s realistic to expect somebody that 18 months ago was rated at £100million to be dropping down into the Championship, no matter what a fantastic, huge, massive club with a huge, brilliant fan base.
“Look, I hope I’m wrong and I might be wrong. If Sunderland could get Evan Ferguson to the Stadium of Light, then they would be bringing in a brilliant player who I’ve got no doubt will help them at the top end of the pitch.”
Sunderland need attacking reinforcements in January
Whether a deal for Ferguson materialises or not, the addition of some attacking players is an absolute must if the Black Cats want to maintain their push for a Premier League return.
Attacking woes have been the main concern while the occasional doubt over the defensive solidity has surfaced with a series of last-minute goals conceded this season.

The Mackems find themselves seven points from the top of the Championship and five behind Sheffield United although with the Blades set to travel to Wearside on 1 January, that gap could be reduced if they avoid defeat.
