Sunderland Championship prediction made by supercomputer after Swansea defeat

Sunderland saw any momentum halted in their desire to earn promotion to the Premier League on Saturday, losing against Swansea.

The Mackems were defeated 1-0 at the Stadium of Light by the Swans, with Ben Cabango scoring the only goal of the game.

Regis Le Bris’ men struggled to make much of an impact on the game by having just two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes, and remain fourth in the Championship.

Despite play-off football being confirmed already, the defeat did leave supporters worried that they might be in jeopardy of falling before the end of the season.

Sunderland learn their fate

The Mackems have got four games left this season, and the position that they are in has come from a season of brilliant early consistency.

But after two games without a win at the business end of the campaign, Sunderland are tempting fate with dropping down the table and being in a weaker position for the playoffs.

However, despite being beaten by Swansea, the Opta Supercomputer has still predicted Sunderland to finish fourth this season.

It is expected that they will end up finishing on 82 points this season, which would be over 10 points ahead of the nearest team below them if that ends up being accurate.

Sunderland will want momentum

Even though Sunderland have already secured a position in the playoffs at the end of the season, supporters will want to see some improved performances moving forward.

That’s going to be crucial for the Mackems if they want to build up some momentum ahead of the playoffs, which is often important for any team wanting to earn promotion.

A big issue that Sunderland are dealing with right now is in front of goal, with their attacking performances leaving a lot to be desired.

Le Bris’ men have failed to score in their past two games, and they haven’t scored more than a single goal in any game since their 2-1 win against Cardiff City on 8 March.

That’s something that Sunderland will be aiming to change moving into the playoffs, especially for the semi-final stage, with two legs deciding a trip to Wembley.
