‘Sunderland can seal instant Roberts upgrade’ amid Ekwah developments

Patrick Roberts may soon find himself out of favour at Sunderland.

With over two months of the transfer window still to go, Sunderland have time on their side when it comes to recruitment, though Regis Le Bris will be keen to get as much business as possible done sooner rather than later.

Enzo Le Fee remains Sunderland’s only addition so far, though several others have been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light ahead of the Black Cats’ return to the Premier League.

Bolstering their attacking lineup will be a priority for Sunderland, and Pierre Ekwah may hold a key role in the players they can attract.

Ekwah could hold key to Sunderland additions

Amid links to Vladyslav Vanat, it is evident that Sunderland are looking for attacking reinforcements this summer, and Ekwah may be able to assist those efforts.

The Frenchman spent last season on loan at Saint-Etienne, but was unable to prevent them from relegation to Ligue 2.

However, the French outfit remain keen on signing Ekwah on a permanent deal [Scott Wilson], and the Black Cats may be able to use him as leverage in a deal to sign a new winger.

Zuriko Davitashvili had an excellent season in Ligue 1, recording 17 goal contributions, and he will be unlikely to stick around after relegation.

His ability to play on either flank is a huge asset, and Sunderland should be looking into the possibility of bringing him to Wearside, with Ekwah going the other way.

As for who he would replace, Roberts would be the immediate standout after he struggled to deliver in the Championship.

Le Bris must utilise Ligue 1 knowledge

Sunderland need to recruit smartly this summer, and the European market is likely to be their best chance to achieve that.

France, in particular, is the home of some serious footballing talent, and with Le Bris having spent most of his career there, he will be fully aware of the quality the top flight possesses.
