Sunderland can replicate Mundle success with signing of ‘quality’ Tottenham star

Romaine Mundle has been a standout performer for Sunderland ever since taking the reign of Jack Clarke.

Sunderland have found plenty of success since Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ assumed control of the club, with their youth-orientated approach the biggest reason behind that.

The likes of Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham have reached new heights with their performances, though the succession planning has been just as impressive.

Dating back to last summer when Sunderland sold Jack Clarke, fans were left wondering how the club would replace him, though very few seemed aware that they already had with the signing of Mundle.

Fast forward into the future, and Sunderland may find themselves in a similar situation, though they may be able to find a short-term resolution.

Tottenham youngster could follow the footsteps of Clarke and Mundle

Mundle is certainly the main example for a scenario like this, but Sunderland have found plenty of success through signing other young talent and exposing them to senior football. That could be repeated.

Mikey Moore shares many similarities. English, young and a left winger who is having to wait patiently for his chance at regular first-team football at Tottenham.

Now, the likelihood of a permanent deal would be remarkably slim, but given the lack of minutes he has received under Ange Postecoglou, a loan move may be an option come the summer transfer window, though it may hinge on which league Sunderland are in.

Moore is very highly rated at Tottenham, with one of their youth coaches describing him as a player with “lots of quality”, as quoted by The Athletic.

If Regis Le Bris’ side can achieve promotion, a deal could certainly be possible, and given the Black Cats’ reputation for developing young players, they may appeal to both parties. From then, who knows what could happen.

Deals like that are often the ones that bring the most success for teams in a similar position, and its certainly the type that Sunderland need to pursue more of going forward.

Sunderland are the perfect landing spot for youth prospects

The development of Dan Neil at Sunderland is the perfect showcase as to how much faith is put in youth players on Wearside, while also showing the benefits that can be had for all parties.

Of course, Neil has been a Sunderland player throughout his life, but the same stands with other players who have joined the Black Cats and taken their careers to a new level.

If players like Moore depart on loan, Sunderland will appeal just as much as anyone, given their track record when it comes to similar deals.
