‘Sunderland can now strike Calvert-Lewin deal’ as official update emerges

Sunderland will make no secret of their desire to sign a new striker this summer.

With a deal for Habib Diarra seemingly imminent, and a whole host of other exciting players linked with a move to the Stadium of Light, Sunderland have made their intentions remarkably clear this summer.

They aren’t just here to make up the numbers in the Premier League; they are here to compete, though the addition of a striker will be necessary for them to fulfil those desires.

Vadyslav Vanat remains the forward heavily linked with a move, but a new update from Merseyside may spark the Black Cats into immediate action, and for good reason.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s departure now confirmed at Everton

Amid links to the likes of Marcin Bulka, Armand Lauriente and Angelino, it’s clear that Sunderland are looking to make some top-level additions this summer, though a sprinkle of Premier League experience will be just as crucial.

That is where Everton come in, with it just announced that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has left the Merseysiders on a free transfer [Fabrizio Romano], and it could provide the Black Cats with a huge opportunity to seal yet another statement signing.

Putting his injury troubles aside, Calvert-Lewin is an excellent Premier League striker who just needs that move to rekindle his career at the top-flight; something Sunderland have showcased their willingness to do over the last few years.

While his wage demands remain unknown, his addition would be an excellent one for most Premier League sides, let alone one of which has only just achieved promotion, and Sunderland really should be looking into striking a deal.

The Everton star has already been tipped for a move to a newly promoted side by Bryan King [Goodison News], and the Black Cats could look to beat Leeds to yet another arrival.

King said: “I think there would be interest from the Premier League.

“Especially the newly promoted clubs, Burnley, Sunderland or maybe Leeds United. Calvert-Lewin is a proven Premier League striker.”

Sunderland still have lots of work to be done

All of the recent links at Sunderland are promising, but until the name is signed on the dotted line, very little will have changed.

The black Cats seem intent on staying in the Premier League, though Regis Le Bris will be hoping to see several new faces through the door before the lads return for pre-season training.
