Sunderland can match West Ham’s 2012 milestone with win vs Nottingham Forest
Sunderland have already broken records since returning to the Premier League.
Sunderland travel to face Nottingham Forest this weekend, with their first victory on the road in their sights.
Back-to-back draws have somewhat slowed the progress made by the Black Cats, though against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, they are certainly valuable points.
On Saturday, they face another team going through a rough period under Ange Postecoglou, and if they win, they will do something not seen in the Premier League.

Regis Le Bris could lead Sunderland to 11 points from six games
Off the back of Sunderland’s 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa, the Black Cats have picked up eight points from their first five Premier League games.
Typically, if a promoted side can hit 11 points before the 10th game, they tend to go on and secure safety, though this season may prove to be different, given how competitive the bottom half has been.
Sunderland so far in the Premier League
- 5 games
- 8 points
- Six goals scored
- Four goals conceded
However, while safety will be unknown, what is known is the fact that Sunderland would become the first promoted side to have that many points after six games since West Ham achieved it back in 2012, 13 years ago.
It will not be easy, and Nottingham Forest are predicted to beat Sunderland by many, but if the Black Cats can exploit their tactical changes under Postecoglou, they have every chance of doing so.
Regis Le Bris will be aware of the threat posed by the hosts, but will also be well aware of the quality his own side has.

Away form is going to be crucial for Sunderland
Sunderland are picking up points at the Stadium of Light, and that is the first step to success in the Premier League, especially for a newly-promoted side.
However, to keep pace with the rest of the teams in the lower half, the Black Cats need to pick up points away from home from time to time, and more specifically, three of them.
Saturday’s clash with Forest provides a great opportunity to do that, especially with the uncertainty over their new style of play.
