Sunderland can extend record-breaking run vs Chelsea after latest reveal
Sunderland face arguably their biggest test yet when they travel to face Chelsea on Saturday.
Regis Le Bris‘ side have picked up a remarkable number of points from their first eight games of the season, and if they are to add to that this weekend, they will need to be at their best.
Sunderland travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with the hosts coming off the back of a 5-1 hammering of Ajax in the Champions League.
However, while the Blues will be favourites to come away with all three points, the Black Cats do have a somewhat favourable record to use to their advantage.

Sunderland’s resilience in London will be needed on Saturday
Sunderland’s 2-0 win against Wolves was their latest triumph of the season, though given their winless start to the campaign, it was a game that the Wearsiders were expected to win.
Saturday’s encounter with Chelsea will have a very different expectation to it, with the Black Cats winless against the Blues in the last nine years.
Sunderland’s all-time record against Chelsea
- Sunderland wins – 42
- Draws – 22
- Chelsea wins – 61
With that said, their record in the capital could spark some optimism.
Sunderland are unbeaten in their last 13 games in London, which is their longest unbeaten run ever in the capital.

Many of those encounters have been outside of the Premier League, with four wins and nine draws in that time.
The most recent one saw Sunderland draw 0-0 with Crystal Palace, and the red and white faithful would likely take a very similar result this weekend.
Team news revealed ahead of Chelsea clash
Sunderland will be without Omar Alderete for their trip to Stamford Bridge, with Le Bris confirming that the Paraguayan will miss the game due to concussion protocols.
Alderete has been crucial to the success that the Black Cats have found in the Premier League this season, and will no doubt be a huge miss.
With that said, Reinildo is in line to return for Sunderland, having served the final game of his three-match suspension last weekend.
Romaine Mundle, Habib Diarra and Aji Alese all remain sidelined.
