Sunderland can do something for the first time in 25 years after Premier League announcement

Sunderland have enjoyed a thrilling start to life in the Premier League under Regis Le Bris.

Sunderland were among the favourites for Premier League relegation, having secured promotion via the play-offs.

However, Sunderland have defeated West Ham and Brentford to secure six points from a possible nine.

Now, they could be about to break a stunning 25-year duck after the latest announcement.

Regis Le Bris nominated for Premier League Manager of the Month

Sunderland’s last gasp win over Brentford could be absolutely vital in their quest for Premier League survival.

The Wearsiders’ two wins sandwiched a disappointing defeat to Burnley, but two wins from three must be viewed as encouraging.

After an eight-year absence from the top flight, the Black Cats have built a side capable of surviving in the Premier League.

Indeed, their opening performances have been a far cry from the woeful displays that resulted in relegation in 2017.

As a result of their success, Le Bris has now been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month award.

The 29-year-old is in good company, with Arne Slot, Enzo Maresca, and David Moyes among the nominees.

When was the last time a Sunderland manager won Premier League accolade?

The last time a Sunderland manager was awarded the Premier League Manager of the Month award was in 2000.

Peter Reid was at the helm for the Black Cats and is widely regarded as the best Black Cats boss in recent history.

Reid was given the award in December 2000 after guiding the North East club to four wins from six, including a draw and defeat.

Sunderland picked up wins against Everton, Middlesbrough, Man City, and Bradford City, while drawing with Arsenal.

The 69-year-old also won the award in the 1999/00 season in October after going unbeaten for four matches.

While Slot will be the favourite to land the award, the Wearside faithful will be hoping that Le Bris’ exploits are recognised.
