Sunderland ‘bust a gut’ amid Jordan Henderson transfer latest – Exclusive

Sunderland could bring Jordan Henderson back to lead their top-flight survival bid.

Regis Le Bris‘ side are crying out for Premier League experience after securing promotion in a dramatic play-off final at Wembley (24 May).

Their engine room could be decimated this summer, with Jobe Bellingham seemingly on his way to Borussia Dortmund and interest in the likes of Dan Neil.

Therefore, adding Henderson into the squad would be a very smart move, and boost their survival chances tremendously.

Sunderland backed to seal Henderson return

The former Liverpool star left the Stadium of Light in 2011 after making 71 appearances for the Black Cats.

A report from The Guardian (28 May) claimed that the 34-year-old is expected to leave Ajax this summer, and the North East outfit are interested in his services.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the Mackems should do everything that they can to bring Henderson back.

Speaking exclusively to Mackem News, he said: “I think it is a great signing, I think they should go for that, I think it would appeal to Jordan Henderson, he is a Sunderland lad isn’t he, his career started out there.

“It is a young squad, it makes sense from a lot of perspectives, he is a great guy in the dressing room, Thomas Tuchel keeps picking him even now.

“He is a brilliant guy to have around the place, not just for what he brings in a playing sense, which maybe is not quite as much as it used to be in his Liverpool days, you know, at his peak.

“For what he brings to the club, the professional standards that he sets and everything else, I would bust a gut to get him on board.”

He is still in the England squad and has Champions League pedigree. Darke is right, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Co. should be doing everything that they can to bring him into the club.

It is a no-brainer, Le Bris needs to be given the best chance to stay up, and adding the former Reds star into the mix will give them a much better chance.
