Gary Bennett wowed by ‘marvellous’ Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris
Gary Bennett hopes Regis Le Bris has Sunderland on course to win promotion back to the Premier League.
The Black Cats sit top of the Championship after nine games having maintained their home unbeaten run courtesy of a 97th-minute equaliser against Leeds United last Friday (4 October).
Le Bris has been swarmed with rightful praise from supporters since his arrival and former Sunderland captain Bennett was keen to echo that.
In quotes reported by The Mirror, Sunday People print edition (13 October pg 5), Bennett said: “Regis has been marvellous – no one was expecting them to be where they are.
“He’s come in and got on with the job quietly. He’s a studious type of coach and he’s got a good reputation for working with young players. He knows what he wants and is getting his message across.
“Hopefully he’s got them on that track back to a spot in the Premier League.”
January could make or break Sunderland
Despite it being almost three months away, attention will already turn to the January transfer window which could prove to be instrumental to whatever success Sunderland achieves this season.
Not only will the Black Cats be aiming to add quality to their squad, but a case can be made for them retaining their quality to be just as important.

Players like Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham have both received plaudits for what has been an exceptional start to the season for the pair however good performances breed interest from clubs higher up the chain and Sunderland must be braced to fend off any interest.
Le Bris has played a huge part of getting Sunderland to where they currently are and his style of play has been a joy to watch throughout however there is a heavy emphasis on certain key players that if missing, could completely disrupt the squad and the Black Cats can’t afford to let that happen if they are to remain in the hunt for promotion.
In other Sunderland news, Gus Poyet has told Sunderland they must avoid the urge to cash in on prized assets this January.
