Pubs and spots for away supporters at the Stadium of Light

Sunderland supporters are among the most friendly in the country, so, on most occasions, away fans are welcomed in most pubs and restaurants located near the stadium.

The city centre is just a 10-minute walk from the ground, and has several pubs and venues that away supporters can take advantage of at more than reasonable prices.

Recommendations include Port of Call, Fire Station and The Peacock.

The Colliery Tavern is just on the other side of the road from the stadium, and also welcomes supporters of away teams, with the Fanzone also nearby.

As for those travelling by car, the St Mary’s Car Park is located next to the bridge that leads you directly to the ground.

From Monday to Saturday, the cost is £1.60 per hour between the hours of 8am and 6pm, and £1.00 per hour otherwise, with a £3 flat rate for those using the car park after 8am on a Sunday.

Things you must know before entering Stadium of Light

Unlike many venues in English football, the Stadium of Light is a cashless ground.

All away supporters will be searched before entering, and could have loose change removed from their person as a result of previous incidents.

Other items that will be removed upon a search include disposable vapes, flares, portable chargers, umbrellas and your standard no-goes for football matches.

The away section is located in the upper tier of the North Stand, with supporters typically entering via turnstiles 69-72.

Facilities there are excellent, but fans are reminded that there are a lot of stairs to get to their seat inside the Stadium of Light.
