Sunderland announce new data investment to boost transfer recruitment

Sunderland have entered into a partnership with analytics firm Driblab in a bid to step up their data-driven recruitment approach, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.

Chief Black Cats writer Phil Smith explained [3 October] that the data provided through the company will help present a more accurate and detailed evaluation of potential new signings, as well as assisting the decisions of the club’s coaching staff.

The club have adopted a solely data-inspired approach to scouting and recruitment under the ownership of Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, which has built into their self-sustaining transfer model of focusing on young players with high potential and resale value.

As quoted by the Echo, Head of Recruitment Stuart Harvey said of the deal: “We are pleased to welcome Driblab as a valuable addition to our group of data providers.

“Their modelling tools assist us in identifying players and allow us to conduct a thorough analytical process, which reinforces our decision-making.

“We appreciate their support and look forward to continuing this collaboration.”

Sunderland make recruitment investment

The partnership entered into by Sunderland will be another from which the club will feel they can profit with future deals for some superb talent.

Many of the club’s signings have come from all corners of the globe including Australia, Costa Rica and numerous leagues in Europe, while also keeping their finger on the pulse for handy experienced pickups like Alan Browne and Chris Mepham.

The excitement factor for many fans on Wearside is that a lot of the time, they have heard precious little about their incoming players – some of whom have gone on to play key roles in the team.

The objective is that the recently-passed transfer window brought some shrewd arrivals of that ilk, with Wilson Isidor – brought in from Russia – making his mark with two goals in two.

Salis Samed, Milan Aleksic and Ahmed Abdullahi still await their debuts for the club, as a mixture of injuries and increased competition keep places in Regis Le Bris’ squad at a premium.

In other Sunderland news, Le Bris challenges the club’s U21 players to earn minutes in the side.
