Sunderland and Newcastle United fans given important travel advice as announcement made

Travel restrictions are set to be in place for Sunderland’s upcoming match against Newcastle.

The game is easily the biggest of the season so far for Regis Le Bris’ side, with the Black Cats having a fantastic opportunity to beat the Magpies for the first time since 2015.

While Newcastle are the favourites for the Stadium of Light clash, Sunderland will feel they have an excellent chance of picking up a win, given their form this season.

Therefore, it is no surprise that fans are desperate to get to the match on Sunday. However, supporters may need to plan their journey in advance due to travel restrictions.

Metro train stops changed for Sunderland vs Newcastle

Sunderland games have been disrupted multiple times this season, and this does not look to change anytime soon.

According to BBC News on 11 December, the Metro trains’ schedule is set to change on Sunday.

Between 10:00 and kick-off, Tyne and Wear Metro trains travelling southbound towards the match will not stop at Stadium of Light station, while Metro trains travelling northbound from South Hylton will not stop at St. Peter’s station.

On top of this, when the Black Cats fans are released from the Stadium of Light at the end of the game and want to get the Metro, they will have to be escorted to the Stadium of Light station.

Newcastle fans will also have to go through this process once they are let out, but will instead be sent to St. Peter’s station.

Before the match, anyone travelling southbound on the Metro have also been asked to use St Peter’s or trains heading towards Newcastle.
