Sunderland and Newcastle ‘set for Uche face-off’ as club chief makes new admission

Sunderland fans have been given a fresh update in their reported battle with Newcastle United for Christantus Uche.

The two teams are set the face off in the Tyne-Wear derby this season for the first time since January 2024.

Back then, Sunderland lost 3-0 in the FA Cup, but the Mackems face a much better chance of getting one over their local rivals next season, having made plenty of moves this transfer window.

Now, the pair are set to go head-to-head after a new Uche update.

Uche wants a move to the Premier League

Sunderland have already gotten off to a fine start in the transfer window, with Brighton’s Simon Adingra expected to be next through the door.

Regis Le Bris’ side have already beaten Premier League rivals to the punch with signings so far, but will have to act fast if they are to beat Newcastle to their latest linked player.

Both Newcastle and Sunderland have been linked with a move for Getafe midfielder Uche.

The pair are not alone in their interest in the Nigerian, with interest from Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and teams in Italy.

The 22-year-old had a stellar campaign in La Liga last season, scoring four goals and providing six assists from midfield.

Uche is now expected to leave Spain this summer, with Getafe’s president Angel Torres revealing he is set on a move to the Premier League.

“Tomorrow, if he comes, we’ll talk to him. He’s clear that he wants to go to the Premier League,” Torres told Ceuta TV.

“He has offers from Italy, but he wants to go to the Premier. He will tell us from tomorrow.”

Uche signing would show that Sunderland have more pull than Newcastle

Should Sunderland beat their local rivals to the signing of Uche, it would be a huge statement from Le Bris’ side.

The Black Cats are not playing about in the summer transfer window and are making great strides towards building a Premier League-level side.

Le Bris’ young Mackems are now looking more ready than ever to show that they can compete with their local rivals again.
