Sunderland and Birmingham fans all say same thing about Patrick Roberts after what he did in loss vs Hull

Patrick Roberts is loving life at Birmingham City since completing his move from Sunderland in the summer.

Sunderland loaned Roberts to Birmingham City at the end of the transfer window, with the winger not expected to play regularly in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old had appeared against Burnley in the season’s second game, but sought consistent minutes elsewhere.

Sunderland signed Simon Adingra from Brighton, Chemsdine Talbi and Bertrand Traore, as well as Enzo Le Fee permanently, who is capable of playing on the wing.

Roberts came on to assist Eliezer Mayenda’s equaliser in the playoff final last season, playing a big part in the Black Cats’ promotion to the Premier League.

Sunderland and Birmingham City fans laud Patrick Roberts

Birmingham City have enjoyed an up and down start to the Championship season, winning just three games from their opening 10.

The Blues lost 3-2 to Hull City on Saturday, but Roberts received praise for his efforts throughout the contest.

The winger created the most chances of anyone, and constantly popped up across the pitch in an attempt to make something happen.

Birmingham City fan JJ Taylor took to social media after the game and said: “Sunderland fans warned us. This guy is absolutely mint!

Another agreed with the sentiment, and said: “He was brilliant. Completely ran himself into the ground. He gave everything. Every time he went forward there was a possibility.

One Birmingham City fan called Roberts the “most exciting player we’ve got”, with another awarding the winger “man of the match”.

Sunderland fans got on in the act too, and one said: “Delighted he’s doing so well for you. A man pivotal in our journey through the leagues and very highly regarded at SAFC. Nothing but good wishes for Paddy.”

Another called on Birmingham to “give him back”, and one gave Roberts incredibly high praise, referring to the 28-year-old as “Mini Messi”.

Kristjaan Speakman was spot on about Roberts

Speaking after Roberts had been sent on loan, Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said: “Patrick was a catalyst in the success of Sunderland over the past four years.”

“Patrick will always be able to call Sunderland home, and he will always be welcome at the Stadium of Light,” Speakman added.

Roberts has never quite made it to a regular spot in the Premier League, but there is still time for the winger.

Should the Englishman enjoy a strong season for Birmingham City, he may well return to Regis Le Bris‘ considerations next season.
