Sunderland ace Chris Rigg surpasses Gareth Bale EFL record in Blackburn Draw
Chris Rigg notched on Boxing Day for Sunderland in their 2-2 draw with Blackburn which saw him surpass the number of goals Gareth Bale scored in the EFL before turning 18.
The Black Cats continued their push for a Premier League return with a draw at Ewood Park on 26 December which means they have now lost just once in their last 16 encounters.
Rigg was on the scoresheet again for the Mackems, levelling the score at 1-1, making him only the third player in Championship history to score more than five goals prior to their 18th birthday with it being his sixth goal in his Championship stay (EFL).
Bale only managed to score five and if his career is anything to go by, Rigg is in for a rollercoaster one of his own.
Sunderland have an England international in the making
His performance, albeit cut short by what looked like a concerning injury, was another one of an impressive nature with his knack of being in the right place at the right time on show once again s he registered his fifth goal contribution of the season.
Although it gets mentioned enough, it is still so, so easy to forget that he is still just 17 years old given the remarkable level of maturity in each and every one of his performances.
His ability on the ball matched with his incredible level of bravery has seen him thrive to unimaginable levels this season and to say the sky is the limit would be an understatement of the century.

Sunderland will do remarkably well to hold on to him with inevitable January transfer interest looming from several European clubs.
Fingers will be crossed for a positive update on his fitness after he was withdrawn due to injury against Blackburn although the initial diagnosis doesn’t look great for the teen.
In other Sunderland news, the Black Cats have a loan decision to make in January.
