Steve Bruce record to be smashed as Regis Le Bris eyes new Sunderland milestone
Regis Le Bris is looking to cement his name in Sunderland history.
While some may still fear relegation, Darren Bent has mooted European football for Sunderland, showcasing just how strongly they have performed so far this season.
Heading into Saturday’s clash with Arsenal, the Black Cats sit fourth in the Premier League, having picked up 18 points from 10 games.
Their form at the Stadium of Light has been a huge part of the success that they have found, and should that continue, it could become a new club record.

Sunderland unbeaten in five at the Stadium of Light
Sunderland’s season got underway with a 3-0 win against West Ham, and their form since that victory has been sensational.
The Black Cats have won three and drawn two at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League.
Their longest unbeaten run at home was back in 2010, when Steve Bruce led his side to a ten-game unbeaten streak.
Some of the results in that season included a 1-0 win against Man City, a 1-1 draw against Arsenal, and a 2-2 draw with Birmingham City, with Bent on the score sheet on all three occasions.
- 10-game unbeaten home run in the 2010-11 season
- Bruce was the Sunderland manager
- Bent and Asamoah Gyan finished as joint top scorers
- Finished 10th in the Premier League
Arsenal are the opponents up next for Sunderland, and the Wearsiders would snatch your hand off for a repeat of the result they managed 15 years ago.
Sunderland vs Arsenal head-to-head
Saturday’s clash between Sunderland and Arsenal is a huge one, and the record since the first-ever clash is fairly even.
Dating back to 1893, Sunderland have beaten the Gunners on 50 occasions, while Arsenal have tasted victory 63 times.
- Sunderland wins – 50
- Draws – 41
- Arsenal wins – 61
- Sunderland’s biggest win – 7-1 in 1953
- Arsenal’s biggest win – 6-1 in 1932
That record isn’t necessarily reflected in recent meetings, with Arsenal having won nine of the last 11 encounters.
Sunderland’s last win against the Gunners was back in 2012, when Kieran Richardson opened the scoring in a 2-0 win for the Black Cats.
