Steve Bruce raves about ‘brilliant’ Regis Le Bris as Premier League survival claim made
Sunderland have performed against all the odds in the Premier League this season.
Sunderland sit fourth in the Premier League table after nine matches, with their long-awaited return to the top-flight going better than anyone could have imagined.
Regis Le Bris achieved promotion with Sunderland by winning the 2024-25 Championship play-offs in the most dramatic fashion possible.
The Black Cats have had several managers in recent history who haven’t been successful, including Steve Bruce, yet in Le Bris, Sunderland have finally struck gold.

Steve Bruce heaps praise on what Regis Le Bris has done at Sunderland
Sunderland defeated Chelsea 2-1 on Saturday, meaning they have made their best start to a top-flight season in 67 years.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 28 October, Bruce was absolutely amazed by the job Le Bris has done for the Black Cats.
He said: “The aim was always to get 10 wins and six or seven draws to stay up in the Premier League, and Sunderland have gotten five.
“Their recruitment has been absolutely brilliant. Where has he found all these guys?
“It’s so refreshing to see a team not struggle, as we’ve seen loads of teams have issues when coming up from the Championship.”

Bruce managed the Black Cats between 2009 and 2011, yet he became an incredibly polarising figure after taking the Newcastle job in 2019.
As Bruce pointed out, Sunderland have built up a healthy head start over their relegation rivals, and no team has ever been relegated after achieving 17 points from their first nine matches.
To have five wins at this stage of the season is exceptional, and whilst all the credit will go to everyone involved with the club, Le Bris deserves special praise for his achievements so far.
Sunderland are now predicted to avoid relegation, with Le Bris keen to avoid the mistakes he made earlier in his career.

Regis Le Bris is doing brilliantly to avoid second relegation of his career
When the 49-year-old was appointed in June 2024, there were understandable fears over his managerial abilities.
Le Bris suffered relegation from Ligue 1 with French side Lorient just a month before arriving in Sunderland.
However, he has completely transformed the belief around the place, and the Mackems have already experienced several unforgettable moments under his stewardship.
Le Bris is on course to go down as one of the greatest managers Sunderland have ever had, and if the Frenchman can secure their status in the Premier League for another season at such ease, then he will be undoubtedly be viewed as a club legend.
