View: Speakman could seal Sunderland promotion by signing Premier League duo
Kristjaan Speakman could rubber-stamp a Premier League return for Sunderland if they can complete the signings of Louie Barry and Evan Ferguson.
The Black Cats are enjoying an excellent campaign and have put themselves in good stead for a promotion push under Regis Le Bris sitting fourth in the Championship.
Their biggest downfall has been in the attacking third with goals often pricing hard to come by but the January transfer window could provide the perfect chance to address that following a loan link to Brighton striker Ferguson (The Scotsman).
Ferguson isn’t the only attacker linked, with Aston Villa’s hotshot Louie Barry also a rumoured target for the Black Cats (Sunday Mirror) ahead of what could be a crucial transfer window.
Ferguson and Barry could seal promotion for Sunderland
While either move may never materialize, the links certainly showcase that Sunderland are ready to show ambition in January with promotion in sight.
With that said, if the Black Cats can muster up a deal for the pair, their chances of a return to the English top flight go up tenfold.
Ferguson has showcased his ability as a top-level finisher while Barry has impressed in League One with Villa set to recall the forward in order to see him develop higher up the footballing pyramid.

With Tommy Watson the latest injury concern, attacking depth and quality is a must for the Mackems and failure to add that could prove to be the difference between promotional and not.
Given how well they’ve fared so far this season, it would be seen as a huge disappointment if the Wearsiders miss out on the chance to boost their hopes of a Premier League return.
