Simon Moore raves over ‘unbelievable’ Sunderland teammate Anthony Patterson

Simon Moore believes that Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson can “play at the top” amid Premier League transfer links.

Patterson has found himself out of the side in recent weeks due to injury with Moore taking his place although it’s highly likely he will slot straight back in after the international break.

Patterson had reported earned transfer interest from Arsenal (TBR football) among several other clubs and Moore believes he is more than capable to play at that level.

In quotes reported by the Northern Echo (13 November), Moore said: “I’ve followed him for a while even before I came here and he’s class, he pulls off some unbelievable saves.

“He’s underrated with the ball at his feet as well, calm and composed. His handling is excellent, he can without a shadow of a doubt play at the top.”

Anthony Patterson is underrated by Sunderland supporters

When it comes to Championship goalkeepers, Patterson is right up there with the best. Although many supporters would disagree.

Patterson has came in for his fair (or not so fair) share of criticism and most of it is wholly unwarranted.

His shot-stopping ability is up there with any other ‘keeper in the division and his distribution is far better than many give him credit for. Is he going to emulate Jordan Pickford? Absolutely not.

However, Sunderland have a very good player on their hands and is just one of many to have come through the academy.

Teammates Dan Neil, Chris Rigg and Tommy Watson are all among the first team this season and thriving, with the Black Cats sitting top of the Championship table.

Interest will arrive from clubs in January and while Sunderland may be tempted to cash in on their number one, they must refrain as he will play a crucial role between the sticks throughout the remainder of the campaign.

In other Sunderland news, Carlton Palmer believes that the Black Cats should be wanting around £70million for Tommy Watson and Chris Rigg if they were to sell in January.
