Simon Jordan ‘pleased’ for Sunderland but explains new concerns over Kyril Louis-Dreyfus

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has been at the heart of Sunderland’s resurgence to the Premier League.

After a fantastic start to the season, Sunderland are predicted to comfortably avoid Premier League relegation.

Regis Le Bris has been hailed for the work he has done for the Black Cats, as following Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday night, the Mackems sit fourth in the league standings.

Louis-Dreyfus has shared insight into Sunderland’s January transfer window coming up, but before then, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has delivered his verdict on the Black Cats’ chairman.

Simon Jordan says Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is ‘lucky in life’

It’s hard to see where Sunderland would be without the help of their chairman, Louis-Dreyfus, as he has given the Mackems nothing but hope since coming to the club in 2021.

Jordan was once a young chairman at Palace, and his time in ownership was never smooth sailing.

Speaking live on talkSPORT, Jordan explained why he’s “pleased” for Sunderland but elaborated on his previous concerns over a “young” Louis-Dreyfus.

Jordan said: “I’m pleased for them. I’m pleased for the owner because I was a little bit snooty about this young man, with his dad’s money, and with respect to him, he has been his own man.

“He’s very lucky in life, but he’s got a wonderful head start, and he’s still got to do something with it.

“It’s still down to him to do it. He’s still got to have substance behind what he does.”

The direction Sunderland has been going in since Louis-Dreyfus arrived has only been upward, as the Black Cats could do the impossible this season.

Sunderland are statistically on track to achieve European football

After 10 Premier League games, Sunderland have 18 points, which is more than Chelsea, Tottenham, and, of course, Newcastle United.

Sunderland are averaging 1.8 points per game in the Premier League, even after difficult fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester United.

If the Black Cats were to retain their current points per game ratio, they would end the season on 68.4 points.

According to a study conducted by GOAL in 2022, a Premier League team needs an average of 69.6 points to achieve a top-four finish.

Now, the Premier League has five places open for Champions League qualification, as well as spots for Europa League and Conference League qualification.

Although that is not realistically expected, exciting times are still ahead for Sunderland.
