Simon Jordan ‘gets it completely wrong’ with cruel Bellingham and Sunderland remark

Jobe Bellingham has come under criticism after leaving Sunderland for Borussia Dortmund.

The £28million transfer fee for Bellingham was widely appreciated on Wearside, and most fans were grateful for his influence in helping the Mackems get promoted.

Bellingham was visibly emotional when Sunderland completed the comeback in a 2-1 win against Sheffield United in the play-off final.

Simon Jordan accuses Bellingham of being hypocritical

Some of the Sunderland supporters were unhappy with Bellingham leaving the Stadium of Light less than three weeks after getting promoted to the Premier League.

It was a chance to finally see a Bellingham play in the top tier of English football, but Jobe followed in the footsteps of his brother Jude to Dortmund.

And speaking on talkSPORT (12 June), Simon Jordan called out Bellingham as he said: “Whilst I don’t think he is quite his brother, he was very influential in that Sunderland side.

“Dortmund wanted the player, the player can be gotten out of Sunderland because we saw him.

“No sooner was he falling onto the floor and telling everyone how much he loved playing for Sunderland, celebrating how much the victory meant to him, he was on a plane to Germany.

“I’m highlighting it because I’m sort of saying how hypocritical it really is when players create this atmosphere of how much these moments mean to them.

“It doesn’t really. It means something to them in that moment, but to football fans it means probably a little bit more.”

Bellingham departure a huge advantage for Sunderland

Jordan’s comments towards Bellingham were completely wrong and somewhat cruel.

Although Sunderland had still been hoping to keep hold of Bellingham, the eventual outcome made sense for both player and club.

Some Mackems were upset that it was found out that days after winning at Wembley that Bellingham was in Germany speaking to other clubs.

However, the England Under-21s international was given the chance to represent one of Europe’s biggest clubs, a chance that is hard for anyone to turn down.

Bellingham could have made the blow heavier for the Black Cats had he dragged the transfer out.

Bellingham was crucial in getting Sunderland promoted

Now, Sunderland have plenty of time to find a replacement and spend their money wisely before the end of the summer.

Bellingham’s departure for Germany could yet be a huge advantage for Sunderland.

The 19-year-old was an important cog in midfield, but the £28m fee can go a long way for the Mackems.

If the Black Cats manage to tie down key players from last season, such as Chris Rigg and Eliezer Mayenda, to new contracts, Sunderland could do better than expected next season.

Regis Le Bris’ side have already been linked with Jordan Henderson as a potential Bellingham replacement.

The Mackems are also interested in bringing last season’s loanee Chris Mepham back to Wearside as they look to beat the odds and stay up next campaign.
