Simon Adingra’s AS Monaco resurgence to benefit Sunderland, here’s how

Simon Adingra has benefited massively from his loan move to Monaco.

Sunderland had high hopes for Adingra when they sealed his arrival from Brighton, but it became apparent very quickly that things weren’t going to go as planned.

His form early into the season saw him drop to the bench, before then being shipped out on loan to Monaco in the winter transfer window.

Adingra has since found his feet in Ligue 1, and that can only have a positive impact for the Black Cats heading into the summer.

How has Simon Adingra fared for Monaco?

Like any loan move, the future of Adingra will be decided in the summer transfer window, but in this instance, Monaco hold the cards.

The French outfit hold the option to sign the Ivorian permanently for a fee in the region of £16million, which would be £5m less than the Black Cats paid for him.

Whether that gets triggered or not will depend on his form for the rest of the campaign, but the signs are certainly promising.

Adingra has already tripled his goal tally for Sunderland while on loan at Monaco, with three goals so far this season.

As demonstrated by the Sofascore graphic below, he has found plenty of success in the final third in Ligue 1, showcased by the fact that he is averaging 3.66 shots per 90, compared to the 0.86 he has averaged at Sunderland.

His dribble success rate has also increased, while his level of creativity has slightly reduced, as demonstrated by the fact that he is averaging just 0.43 key passes per game, which is exactly half of what he achieved in the Premier League.

But overall, Adingra has seemingly returned to his best while playing in France, and that is a good thing for Sunderland.

Sunderland will be hoping Adingra can continue impressive form for one key reason

Sunderland will be left with two situations in the summer when it comes to the future of Adingra.

Either the Ivorian remains on Wearside off the back of a solid campaign in France, or the Black Cats will make the majority of their money back on a signing that didn’t go as planned.

Both outcomes will be seen as a net win for the Mackems, who will undoubtedly be looking towards another huge recruitment push ahead of what is looking increasingly likely to be another Premier League campaign.
