Simon Adingra set for ‘quickfire Sunderland transfer’ as Talbi deal announced

Sunderland are attempting to finalise a deal for Brighton winger Simon Adingra.

The Ivorian could become the Black Cats’ fifth new signing of the summer so far, with decision-makers at The Stadium of Light keen to equip Regis Le Bris with a squad capable of Premier League competition.

Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki and Reinildo Mandava have all had their moves to the North East confirmed in recent weeks, and the club announced on Wednesday (July 9) that Chemsdine Talbi has joined from Club Brugge.

Sunderland have also confirmed the permanent signing of Enzo Le Fee from AS Roma, after the Frenchman spent the second half of last season on loan.

Sunderland set to sign Adingra

Adingra’s arrival in the North East would represent a significant coup for Sunderland.

The winger joined Brighton in 2023, after a deal worth around £8.5m was agreed with Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise.

And Adingra’s impact was immediate, scoring seven goals in his first season – including a long-range finish against Liverpool.

But last season saw a reduction in the winger’s minutes, with new head coach Fabian Hurzeler electing to start alternative options.

That has seen Adingra enter the transfer market this summer, and Sunderland appear to have jumped the queue for his signature.

According to Keith Downie (July 9), the Black Cats have agreed a deal initially worth around £20.5million, including add-ons, with Brighton for the 23-year-old.

Adingra has already flown to the North East and is currently undergoing a medical, with personal terms already agreed.

Adingra is an impressive signing for Sunderland

Hurzeler’s reluctance to play Adingra last season was strange, with the Ivorian possessing a brilliant ability to produce match-changing moments.

Two-footed and supremely confident with the ball at his feet, the 23-year-old will provide immediate danger on either wing for Sunderland next season.

Adingra has also demonstrated his ability to turn up in the big moments, providing two vital assists for Ivory Coast as they beat Nigeria 2-1 in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The competition’s return next year will see the winger out of action for a period of Sunderland’s season, but that will not be enough to see the Black Cats look elsewhere.
