Simon Adingra mystery to deepen after Sunderland injury update
Simon Adingra has been a squad player at best since joining Sunderland in the summer.
Sunderland’s summer signings have been influential to their success so far this season, with the likes of Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs playing a crucial role each week.
However, several of those who arrived at the Stadium of Light have had minimal influence so far this season, and Adingra is one of them.
The Ivory Coast international is yet to register a goal contribution for the Black Cats, though his lack of game time is a big reason behind that.

Romaine Mundle could move ahead of Simon Adingra
Romaine Mundle made his return for Sunderland’s Under-23s last week and marked it with a well-taken goal against Sporting.
Having played a crucial role in their promotion from the Championship, fans are eager to see how the former Spurs winger can adapt to life in the Premier League.
Mundle’s stats last season
- 25 appearances
- Five goals
- Two assists
- 26 chances created
- 35 completed dribbles
However, with Adingra having started just four games this season, with only eight appearances in total, Mundle‘s return could restrict that gametime even further.
Mundle was a favourite of Regis Le Bris’ last season, not only because of his ability to provide magic, but also his willingness to track back and help out defensively.

When deemed fit enough for first-team action, that could repeat itself this season, leaving questions as to what the future has in store for Adingra.
Sunderland’s winger situation is strange
Sunderland paid a fair chunk of money to sign Adingra and Chemsdine Talbi in the summer, though, between them, they have only started 10 of the Black Cats’ 10 games.
Enzo Le Fee has been preferred on the left, while Bertrand Traore has been deployed on the right in recent weeks.
Talbi scored the winner at Chelsea a few weeks ago, but has played just 60 minutes of football in the three games since.
Whether Le Bris wants to utilise them as impact players, or simply doesn’t think they offer enough, remains to be seen, though it’s a strange situation that is unfolding.
