Sevilla take swipe at Newcastle fan Sam Fender in their 1-1 draw v Sunderland

Sevilla have poked fun at Sam Fender in their draw against Sunderland.

The LaLiga outfit faced the Black Cats on Saturday (19 July) at the Estadio Algarve as Regis Le Bris oversaw a second pre-season friendly of the summer.

It was the perfect start in Portugal as Enzo Le Fee opened the scoring after 33 minutes before the Spaniards equalised late on as the clash finished 1-1.

Despite only managing a draw, it is fair to say that the Mackems will look back at their clash against Sevilla fondly after their message to Fender on social media.

Sevilla take Fender swipe at Newcastle

There is huge levels of excitement building as the SR5 club prepares to host their most bitter rivals in the Premier League for the first time since 2016.

The Magpies did come and take a win away from the Stadium of Light back in January 2024 as Alexander Isak scored two after Dan Ballard’s earlier own goal.

With that being said, the Black Cats will be hopeful of a better run at the Magpies in the upcoming campaign.

With expectation already building surrounding these derby clashes, supporters will have had their eyebrows raised by Sevilla’s social media antics.

Los Nervionenses shared a picture of their manager in the dugout as the friendly played out, with the caption, “His name is Matias Almeyda, he hates Sam Fender”.

This is obviously in reference to the hugely popular Eliezer Mayenda chant in the north east, who is famed for hating the Geordie musician while also playing up front for Sunlun.

Sunderland Mayenda chant goes global

It is fair to say that nowadays, it is truly difficult to create an original song and get it going on a regular basis on the terraces at the Stadium of Light.

That hasn’t stopped the Mackems doing exactly that with their chant for the young Spanish forward, certainly deeming of his quality and potential in red and white.

It is certainly interesting to see this now get recognition from elsewhere, with Sevilla’s rendition certainly coming as a surprise to the Black Cats on social media.

Sunderland fans are bound to have the chant stuck in their heads once again now…

“My name’s Eliezer Meyenda, I hate Sam Fender, I play up front for Sunderland…”
