Romaine Mundle update to spark Sunderland switch v Coventry City

Regis Le Bris may have to make a drastic change to his starting 11 for their play-off encounter with Coventry.

Sunderland will already be aware of the task at hand against Coventry, given the fact that they have failed to beat the Sky Blues away from home in 40 years.

In fact, their last triumph against Coventry was over 18 years ago, though that will need to change in the next five days if the Black Cats are to make it into the final at Wembley.

With that said, the latest update on Romaine Mundle will do little to provide optimism, and it may force Le Bris into making a change to his tactical set-up.

Sunderland could be without Mundle v Coventry

Initially, the hope was that Mundle would be fit for the clash at the CBS Arena, but in an update posted on Sunderland’s X account, Le Bris has claimed it is unlikely.

Sunderland have options, but none of them stand out as a great one, especially given the relationship with Tommy Watson ahead of his summer move.

Fans will not want to see Enzo Le Fee play out wide, which could force Le Bris into changing to a back five formation, and it may be the best decision he could make.

The first thought for the Wearsiders on Friday has to be to avoid defeat, to ensure that they are at least on level terms ahead of the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light.

Failing that, Sunderland will be at a distinct disadvantage, and it could prove costly.

Sunderland must show some fight v Coventry

Sunderland will not need to be made aware of how big this game with Coventry is, but how they react to it is a different matter.

Five defeats in a row have sparked major concern on Wearside, and they simply need to find a way to end that wretched run of form.

After such a positive campaign, it would be a disaster to see it end in defeat.
